Since autumn last year, we keep reading about layoffs in tech companies. Yesterday, it was Salesforce’s turn to share that 10% of the workforce was impacted. Being a Salesforce alumni, it hit close to home. I knew many people that were impacted, my heart and thoughts are with you. If I can do anything to help and support you during this difficult phase, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Salesforce is a great place to work and it is difficult to have that taken away from you. Having worked there for so many years, I can imagine that the leadership team exhausted all other options before deciding that this restructuring was the option to take.
For the ones who stayed, I would ask you to reflect, if you haven’t already. Your new fiscal year starts soon and with that your goals for the year ahead. So as you think about them, I offer you this piece from David W. Orr.
“The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.”
This is an invitation for everyone to exercise AND, not OR. Let me explain. In the quest for success, we are not only one thing. You can be successful AND a peacemaker. You can achieve your goals AND be a healer. You can be accomplished AND a restorer. It is always a choice.
