Keep Going!

There are moments when I am running that my head just wants me to give up. It could be that the legs feel too heavy, or the breath is too short; sometimes I bump into these sensations and I just want to convince myself that I have run enough even though I know this is just half of what I am used to jogging.

Not long ago, I was experiencing one of these days when  I crossed an older lady who looked at me and said ‘Keep Going’. Maybe I looked as if I was about to faint or my breathing was too loud, it doesn’t really matter. Those words pierced my veins as an injection of adrenaline. It reminded me of my capacity to finish the run, to not give up because it was just difficult.

This is also true in everyday life. I realised  the importance of a confidence booster to remind me what I am capable of, it could be in the form of an old lady that crosses me on the street or if I develop an inner-cheerleader.

I offer this thought to all those people impacted by layoffs. You will go through all the stages of grief and this is important to recognise. What I want to say is never forget what you are capable of. You know your competencies and skills as a professional. Don’t let this moment define who you are. I am here today to be that person that looks into your eyes and says Keep Going.
