Grateful for life

Today, I learned that a dear friend is suffering from a degenerative disease, and she will probably not recognise me anymore. We were close once, but life happened, and we lost contact. She is on the other side of the planet, and in the back of my mind, I always think that when I visit that country again, she is on the list of people to see. We are the same age, and this news put things into perspective.

It also made me think of the fragility of life. Things can happen to any of us at the turn of a dime. It is an opportunity to honour all those who were taken ahead of their time by illness or tragedy.

I am sad, but I feel extremely grateful for life. Sometimes, I forget to appreciate what is around me, the big and the small: the busy streets of London, the sun shining bright this morning (it’s been a while, mate!), my health, and the deep breaths I learned to take while meditating. It does not take much to do it.

So, I invite you to close your eyes, take a deep breath, look within and think about what you are grateful for right now. Take a long exhale, open your eyes and continue your day with all its possibilities. It takes less than a minute. Enjoy.
