If you are in London, it is hard not to notice all the company’s logos wearing their colourful outfits or all the rainbow flags that wave around shops and main roads. It is June, so it is time to celebrate Pride. I know we are halfway through the month, but Pride should be celebrated every day of the year. It is the opportunity to honour the achievements of those who came before us and whose actions allowed us to experience freedom not available decades ago. Flags and banners are a start, but not enough because having Pride is much more than wearing a rainbow wristband.
Pride is a statement of existence and relevance.
Pride is a declaration to the world that we deserve to be here.
Pride is remembering that sometimes life isn’t fair, but we learn from it and push it to change.
Pride is a muscle that needs daily exercise.
Pride is the blood that runs through the veins and pumps life into motion.
Pride is the courage to keep going despite others telling us that we are too much or too little.
Pride is about embracing and celebrating our unique selves unapologetically. It’s about loving ourselves, not despite our differences, but because of them. It’s a powerful act of self-acceptance and self-love that empowers us to be our authentic selves.
Happy Pride, everyone!
