In recent conversations with friends, colleagues and clients, I keep hearing variations of the same sentence: I still have one more gig in me. Well, let me start by saying that I think this is a very limiting statement and I call bs on it.
Just because someone is in their mid-life, do they truly believe they would have only one more important role to play? What could happen after that? Would they fall off the professional cliff? Or could this be that you will give all your strength one more time, and then what? Play golf for the rest of your life? This certainly could be an option, but the world would be missing out.
Enough with the restraining talk, because we become what we say.
Repurposing one’s career is all about expansion and one of the greatest joys someone can experience. We have gathered so many masteries throughout our working history and have the opportunity to focus on what really excites us.
I can attest to that since, as you might know, I left the corporate world a little more than one year ago and now am an executive coach who supports leaders and their teams to become a better version of themselves. It is a journey of self-discovery, learning, trial and error, and definitely worth it.
My fellow mid-lifers, despair not. Research shows, all things considered, we will live until our 80’s, so we can have as many gigs as we want. If you want to talk about it, you know where to find me.
